Along the Way

Along the Way is an ongoing initiative exploring what meaningful support can look like when we stay alongside neurodivergent children and their families over time.

Rather than creating isolated moments of participation, the project builds a circle around the child โ€” connecting families, educators, practitioners, researchers and communities through shared experiences, observation and dialogue.

Through encounters with nature, light, materials and place, we pay attention not only to what happens in the moment, but to what continues afterwards: relationships, understanding, confidence, belonging, and new ways of seeing the child.

Many programs create moments of participation. Along the Way asks what remains after the moment has passed.

The First Chapter ยท 2026โ€“2027

The first chapter connects families and professional advisors across China and Australia through a year-long journey of curated experiences, documentation and reflection. We would love to have other circles to join us from other countries.

Stories and learning gathered along the way will contribute to the evolving Along the Way story in 2027, a part of our 2027 international exhibition Children in Nature | Nature in Children, creating opportunities for families, educators and professionals to meet, reflect and continue the conversation.

This is not a project with a fixed ending.

It is a growing practice of staying alongside children, families and one another โ€” and seeing where the journey may lead.
